Mechanical Workshop Technician

The School of Ocean and Earth Science (based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS)) is seeking to recruit a mechanical workshop technician. This post would ideally suit a newly qualified apprentice.

Reporting to the Senior Workshop Technician, the post holder will provide support to the School by the provision of a first class mechanical engineering service to its staff and students. Operating from the School's mechanical workshop you will assist in provision of an innovative and responsive service to education and research sectors within the School and NOCS.

You will be resourceful in the delivery of support, have good communication skills, and must have undertaken an appropriate Turning/Machining/ Fitting apprenticeship. You will have achieved an OND/BETEC National Diploma or equivalent standard in mechanical engineering. The ability to weld would be advantageous but not essential. Additionally the post holder must have a sound understanding of the health and safety aspects within this field.
